Sailor Moon A to Z, MoTD Style: Bonnoun
Bonnoun is a slightly different Monster of the Day; based on a villain from a Sailor Moon manga special, she didn’t appear in the main anime series, but the SuperS animated special “Ami-chan no Hatsukoi” (“Ami-chan’s First Love”).
In both versions, poor Bonnoun didn’t get a very good run. A malicious spirit who feasts on people’s jealousy and selfish desires, she latched onto Ami after our favourite nerd developed a hate-crush/rivalry with the mysterious genius ‘Mercurius’. Picking up on Ami’s allergy to love letters, she pelted her with them, and made all the work she’d studied and memorized float out of her brain. Unfortunately, she had no idea who she’d latched on to; Ami, feverish and delirious, mistook Bonnoun for Mercurius and launched into full attack. Bonnoun didn’t stand a chance and was wiped out with the anime’s only appearance of “Mercury Aqua Mirage”.
“Bonnou” means “jealous passion”, but also relates to Buddhist concepts of (carnal) desires.
Long story short: I want to colour something but I don’t want to actually draw it first. And I have no preference for any particular manga scene! So?
Rei Hino - Reflection v.2
I wanted to try my hand at a manga colouring… tada! I got the original scan from aqua-illusion. I redrew parts of it too. It was challenging, but interesting and really soothing. I enjoy colouring, but I rarely get my own drawings to that stage, so maybe I’ll do more. Who knows!
