“I’m a lesbian, and I DON’T want a lesbian princess. The world isn’t ready for it right now.”
Sorry to reblog something not strictly related to Sailor Moon, but can I just say;

I absolutely loathe hearing this excuse, especially when it comes from other LGBT people; what kind of logic is this? If people keep saying, “the world isn’t ready!”, then the world will never be ready. Minorities don’t get treated equally just because the world magically becomes ready; the world becomes ready because the shit has already gone down and the rest of the world has to learn to deal with it.
Not to mention that even the idea that the world “isn’t ready” is totally flawed. “Not ready” for what? A lesbian couple portrayed in a positive way, as main characters, even? Sorry to burst your bubble, but that’s happened before. The world has already been “handling” homosexual couples in its media - yes, even ones aimed at chidlren - for some time now and nothing has exploded. Disney is actually pretty far behind the curve on this one.
I don’t want a lesbian/gay Disney prince/princess either, but it’s because I think it’d be full of stereotypes and cliches and unfortunate implications. I don’t mind if people don’t want a LGBT Disney character so long as this isn’t the reason. Get over the idea that somehow the world would implode if a Disney princess enjoyed tits, and focus on discovering the real reason you don’t want one.

I just designed this. Someone please print it. Sailor Uranus/Sailor Neptune gay pride shirt.
ladydynamitez:i hate it, when i see Neptune/Uranus images and in the tags are something like #lesbians. Like hey, do you always add ‘hetero’ into the tag list, when posting or rebloging Usagi and Mamoru or other hetero couples?
LOL people srsly got mad about what i had to say about this. Okay, good for them, i guess. Now i know who i’m gonna unfollow next!
Huh. I kind of thought, when I first saw OP’s post, that maybe she had some legitimate reasons for her opinion. Like the fact that some people see “lesbians” as only a porn category, not a word that real living breathing people use to describe themselves, so the tag is way too commonly misused. Or the fact that queer characters on TV are often reduced entirely to their sexuality without any other facets to their character whatsoever (as a Glee fan, she should know something about this) and fans sometimes perpetuate this when they obsessively label them only by that without talking about all the interesting nuances of that particular character. But nope. Apparently when actual lesbians and other queer-identifying people tell you they have good reasons for using that tag, it’s better to dismiss them than actually have a discussion about the matter.
reblogged because truth
While I hadn’t thought so much about the first point, I was assuming she was trying to argue from the second, which I could agree with on some levels; but assuming so, I disagreed with the blanket claim that everyone who used a #lesbians tag was only judging the characters on their sexuality, and I thought the comment that anyone who uses a #lesbians tag should use a #hetero tag was thoughtless.
All I wanted was a rational argument. Oh well.
