WHAT YEAR IS IT
Sailor Moon Tumblr-Wide Rewatch, Week 6!
I am basically the worst person ever to be hosting something like this. I myself am, like, 2-3 weeks behind schedule.
But! Week 6 is pretty dynamic, with the introduction of Sailor Mars and one of my favourite episodes. Plus, we have graduated from single digits! Hope you all enjoy the show this week!
The two episodes we’ll be Rewatching this week are;
#010: Norowareta BUS! Honoo no Senshi MARS Toujou (“The Cursed Bus! The Soldier of Flames Mars Appears”) (DiC Dub: “An Uncharmed Life”)
Pretty much exactly what it says on the tin; there are some cursed buses, and Sailor Mars is introduced.
And…
#011: Usagi to Rei Taiketsu? Yume LAND no Akumu (“Usagi and Rei Face Off? The Nightmare of Dream Land”) (DiC Dub: “Nightmare in Dreamland”)
This is one of my favourite episodes - it’s adorable, it has some important characterisation (basically the beginnings of Usagi and Rei’s love-hate relationship, Rei’s anime-only crush on Mamoru, the three fighting together rather than disjointedly) and the MoTD is all kinds of awesome.

The moonlight is a message of love~
Color me well and truly amazed, but in one of her recent blog posts, Keiko Kitagawa brought up PGSM!
Keiko was reminiscing about the early days of her career because, 8 years ago on October 4, 2003, she debuted in Seventeen and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon began to air. Do you feel old reading that? Because you should. D:
Anyway, here’s a translation of part of the blog post in question:
Good evening!
We managed to bring the three days of studio set recording to a finish. Now we’ll spend our days on location again for a while. Next to that we’re in program recordings periodically to do promotion, so I’ll be living my life at the end of the year immersed in “The Mystery”.
And it quickly became October before I realized it. By the way, on October 4 tomorrow it’ll be 8 years since my début. On October 4 2003 I had my Miss Seventeen début event, and episode 1 of my début work, Sailor Moon, went ON AIR, a totally unexpected coincidence that happened 8 years ago already. Time flies like an arrow, doesn’t it?
Thanks to the many different experiences I’ve had in those eight years working
with many people on many different sets, I’ve little by little, like a turtle perhaps,
come to mature as a person. Because I’ve often been led onto new ground, I’ve been given to see various worlds in these 8 years.
Especially the strict guidance on Toei’s tokusatsu set in the first year left a really strong impression that I remember vividly even now. The schedule was hard, many among the staff were old-fashionedly strict, so still a novice in those days I’d call my home in tears night after night…. I still think of Toei as the toughest set of all, but I’m also the most thankful of Toei. The more I mature the more often I think that I’m glad that my first work was a Toei tokusatsu. Thanks to them working me hard in the fields of tokusatsu, they’ve moulded little Keiko into someone who isn’t easily bothered by trifles.
There’s still a great many things that I don’t know or that I must learn, but I also have a great many reasons for why I must continue on, so while enjoying even my own inexperience I want to continue on with devotion.
Fans who have been supporting me all this time since my first work have already been with me for the not exactly short time of 8 years. Thank you all very much. That you’re growing older together with me makes me really happy. Please continue to favour Kitagawa Keiko, without saying, “I’m sooo sick of her” , into the 9th year since her début.
How interesting that Keiko considers PGSM to be the hardest set she’s ever been on! That director really was a slave driver. ^^; Well, all the hard work paid off, and I’m thrilled to bits that she mentioned her roots!

!! Keiko, you’re too cute! I love that she still has fond memories of PGSM, in a way. (I’m still hoping that she wears that bracelet occasionally.) And I felt old already, but now I feel even older, hahahaha help me.
