Yo, this is an adorable photo with awesome cosplay and an excellent location/scenario/ambience, but this is a pretty good example of how RP blogs can be totally rude without meaning to.

If you’re an RP blog and you reblog something outside of your RP with your character in it, which is the product of another fan - so that’s fanart, fanfic, etc. and especially cosplay - stop speaking as the character. I mean, what? You aren’t this character. You are just a roleplayer. And when you absorb someone else’s fanfic/fanart/whatever and start saying stuff like, “Oh I remember when this happened” or “what? I would never do something like this!!”, you’re being rude as fuuuccckk. Because you’re kind of putting yourself in a position of authority over all the other fans; you’re taking someone else’s content and more or less taking ownership of it, picking and choosing what is and is not “true”.

I know that most of you don’t actually intend to do this; you’re just having fun and it’s an extension of your roleplay. And within your roleplay feel free to say “I” and “we” and “us” all you like. Thing is, people don’t make cosplay or fanart or fanfic just for you. You don’t have the right to yoink someone else’s stuff off the Internet and act like it’s yours just because you run an RP blog. That’s plagiarism outside of RP and - surprise! - it’s the same inside RP too. You are just another fan, and “just having fun” has never been a valid excuse for being rude.

So TL;DR: If you reblog something to an RP account, either respond to it OOC or don’t respond to it at all. Talk about how it influences your interpretation of the character, talk about what elements you wish it had, talk about how and why you personally consider it to be OOC, talk about it all you like - as yourself and not as the character. Please treat other fans and their content with as much respect as any non-roleplayer.

Nothing personal against the OP because, like I said, I know most of you don’t do it to be intentionally rude, it’s just a particularly clear example. I’m not trying to call you out and say that you are rude people, just that what you’re doing is perhaps rude in a way you had not considered.
