I’ve been following this project since the beginning, and I’ve had some mixed feelings about it - some shallow concerns, like wishing that they’d commissioned the costumes from a different outfitter (I understand that this is a fan production and they are working entirely out-of-pocket, but cosplay can still be affordable and not made out of costume satin), and some deeper; my main disappointment, initially, was that the plot of the movie seemed to be ripped 100% from the Anime with few changes that would intrigue a returning audience. At first I kind of laughed and assumed it would be crappy, because so many fan-movies are, and the first trailers did seem pretty cheesy. (I’m just trying to be honest here.)
But after seeing more of their videos and photos I know that while many scenes are directly influenced by corresponding scenes from the show, they’ve put their own style and effort into it that will make it worth watching.
So I’m just going to be honest; I’m really excited for this. I can’t wait for it to come out. Jupiter’s actress, Therese, is absolutely perfect for the part. Moon/Venus’s actress Mary Beth is a lovely girl with an awesome blog. (Not that the other girls aren’t awesome too; they just have less of an internet presence so I can’t stalk the heck out of them.) The special effects and scene locations are especially impressive considering that this is an entirely fan-produced movie.
Even if this isn’t what you personally find appealing, anyone can admit that the time, effort and dedication they’ve put into this is unparalleled. In a fandom where so many ideas fizzle out before fruition, this is a project that deserves respect and support.
