I’ve always thought of Setsuna having green hair. It’s always looked solidly dark green to me, whereas Rei’s is black with artistic purple highlights.

Looking at the Materials Collection, the early designs for Pluto show her with black hair; but by the time she was drawn with the other Outer Soldiers, her hair is definitely a solid green:

By the same token, Rei’s hair is obviously black, but Naoko often completely colours it (sometimes a very light) purple. Consider this picture where Setsuna and Rei are drawn together and both their hair is coloured not-black:

Although artistically speaking, the reason neither of their hair is straight black is because it would look horrid on such a subdued picture, and while I personally think Rei’s hair is less saturated and invokes “oh this hair is really black” more than Setsuna’s rich green, you could consider this an argument that both of them have black hair that’s just stylistically coloured.
But then compare with this picture;

Rei’s hair is still not jet black (for the sake of art), and here has been reimagined as a subtle lighter brown, instead of the usual purple. Since her hair is actually black, both of them are acceptable. But then look at Pluto, who still has pretty bright green hair.
Basically, while Rei’s hair seems to run through a number of colours, Setsuna’s is always green.

Then in the anime, she’s pretty consistently portrayed as having very dark green hair;

So to me, I’m really sold on her having dark green hair. But I think there’s evidence if you want to think of her as having black hair, especially if you’re doing a cosplay (to look more realistic).
What I want to know is, why do some people colour her hair as purple?? Where did that come from??
